The HealthyW8 Project held its first annual meeting and clinical trials training in Palma de Mallorca from 3rd to 6th June. The event featured insightful sessions, hands-on training, and collaborative discussions, bringing together experts to drive forward the mission of combating obesity.
The HealthyW8 Project recently held its first annual meeting in Palma de Mallorca, Spain. This event brought together partners and experts from various institutions to share insights, progress, and training essential to the project's mission of combating obesity and promoting healthy lifestyles across Europe.
Day 1 & Day 2: Annual Meeting at University Hospital Son Espases
The event kicked off with an official opening featuring speeches from Dr. Elena Usamentiaga (IB-SALUT), Carlos Enrique (IdISBa), and Dr. Victor Homar (UIB). HealthyW8 Coordinator Torsten Bohn (LIH) and WP4 Leader Josep A. Tur (IDISBA-UIB) provided a comprehensive introduction to the project. The day continued with parallel working sessions for different Work Packages (WPs), allowing in-depth discussions on various aspects of the project.
The second day focused on continued WP sessions, followed by common presentations from WP leaders, offering a cohesive view of the progress and future steps for HealthyW8. An Executive Committee meeting further solidified the plans and strategies.
Day 3 & Day 4: Clinical Trials Training at University Hospital Son Espases and University of the Balearic Islands
The training sessions were a crucial component, equipping team members with practical skills for clinical trials. Day 3 featured training on RedCap, IT applications, and sample collection techniques, including blood, urine and saliva. Experts from LIH, LIST, NIUM, and other institutions led these informative sessions.
The final day, held at the University of the Balearic Islands, included sessions on anthropometry, physical activity assessment, dietary and sociodemographic questionnaires, and data structure and analysis. Trainers provided hands-on guidance to ensure participants are well-prepared for upcoming clinical trials.
